senoritafish: (Heart fish)

*Yawn*

OK, I'm up, I'm awake, I'm freshly showered, the coffee's on, and the next order of business is a big bowl of cereal. Welcome to the Bob(cat) Laughlin Memorial Blogathon for 2005, in which I will attempt to make an entry here every half hour for the next 24 hours to raise a few bucks for the Niki Hospice Foundation for Pets; there are a ton of other worthwhile charities people are blogging for, too. It's starting to get light outside and I expect the dawn chorus to start at any moment. Excuse me, the cats have noticed I'm up and are demanding to be let in and fed too...

Cool - There's a radio station just for today at http://www.live365.com/stations/blogathon?site=pro They're taking requests! Rather staticky at the moment, but we'll see what they play for awhile. I've got some new headphones that I'm not sure I like - they wrap around my ears and the cord seems to be too short. Oh well, what do you expect for $5...

Another blogger, Alhena ( http://www.alhena.net/blog/ ) is having other bloggers and sponsors color pieces of a virtual quilt, which she'll put back together by the end of today. She just sent my my piece to color.

Actually, I'm kind of glad it's not too compllcated.

I am going to post my own stuff soon, honest, as soon as my brain wakes up and starts working, but I just spent a few minutes looking at this, courtesy [livejournal.com profile] megthelegend:

Flying cats...

With the amount of fully extended claws in that slideshow, it's a wonder the photographer isn't sliced to ribbons! XD

Bob had a tail like the tabby in those pics. And he used to chase my brother's dog, an Italian grayhound whom he outweighed by about 10 lbs., with big spread-out paws like that. Before they knew each other well, she would yelp just to run past him as fast as possible while he was asleep on a chair in the living room. He would open eye, and look at her like, "What the hell is your problem, dog?" Later, after they got to know each other, she'd run up behind him and bark, then turn tail and run as he chased her. Looked like a deer and a tiger playing tag. Galumph, galumph. Heh.

I thought I'd give a little tour of the docks in San Pedro, where I work a few days a month. There are always friendly faces, waiting to greet me when I arrive early in the morning.

(I'm only being a little sarcastic.)

Bow of an old purse seiner. A lot of these old boats date from the 30's and 40's and are gradually being replaced by new steel boats. That is, when the owners can afford to replace them.

Haha, I finished my quilt piece and sent it off. Hope it's okay. It was only 86x86 pixels so it didn't take too long. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like when it's done.

A bait boat coming back to the dock; you can see it towing its skiff behind it. The skiff is used to haul the boat's net out to surround a school of fish. This boat has large wells filled with water, so it can deliver its catch ( mostly sardines and anvhovies) alive to barges in the harbor. The bit of Terminal Island behind it is where one of admirals of the Coast Guard lives.

I fiddled with curves a bit on this photo, because otherwise you couldn't see it against the island.

A close-up of the cupola on the Forty Thieves building.

I think this is a historical building - however I've been told that everything along the San Pedro waterfront is going to be razed to building a tourist attractive waterfront, walkway, shopping, etc. I would hate to see it go - it was just renovated (on the outside, at least) a couple of years ago, although I'm not sure why someone chose the very loud peach color.

Hmmm, that was a little worrying - my client that I'm writing in didn't want to talk to LiveJournal for a moment, but it seems ok now.

Are you tired of sunrise pics yet?

I have a few more for you... )

Heh, the Blogathon radio is playing all anime music right now. Scary that I can recognize The Pillows right off the bat. Well, maybe not, considering how much I've watched FLCL lately.

Heading out for day... )

So you get a stoopid quiz for now.... )

Sometimes we'll drive up to Point Fermin; there's a parking lot there where we can overlook the ocean and look for boats coming in. Sometimes the light is really awesome.

The curved line is the jetty that forms the entrance to Los Angeles Harbor. There's a lighthouse at the very end of it that flashes a green light. Closer to shore, there is a fishing pier on the inside of the harbor. Occasionally, people will walk out to the very end of the jetty to fish -- and forget to check the weather report. In rough weather, waves start breaking over the jetty. Then you get to see a story about them having to be rescued on the new.

The kids want me to make them spaghetti for lunch. I think they'll have to make to with peanut butter sandwiches.

On busy days, the boats will stack up, two and three deep waiting to unload.

You'll have to excuse me; my son can't find any pants. I must assist him lest he run outside without any on - it wouldn't bother him in the least.

Hmm, the weather station says rain - interesting. It's been perfectly sunny and we don't usually get rain here in August.

Hogwart's Sorting Hat Quiz

made by The Genki Gang

You are smart, calm and calculating in a situation
or problem you're faced with.

You base your decisions more of logic than a standard of morals.

But be careful, sometimes in your search for knowledge you come across as
cold as Spock.

Erm, not so sure about that.

As for ruling the world, I quote The Monarch - "I'll leave that to the religious nuts and the Republicans, thank you very much."
