To tell the truth, I copied down the [livejournal.com profile] mylife_onceaday scavenger hunt list at the beginning of the month, but have suffered travel, stress, Flickr account expiring, lack of computer access (read one computer and 4-5 people wanting to use it) and lack of motivation to keep track of it. Hell with it, let's just say I'm a lazy ass. Given that I did take pics without the list in mind I thought I'd at least go through my April photos and see if any matched up with the prompts.

Angus and I went for a walk downtown; given that I've lived here since being younger than he is, there are a LOT of childhood memories here. The tree above, more horizontal than vertical, is one of several like it I used to climb regularly when my Girl Scout troop had day camp (called Camp Puk-Wudgie) for a week each summer. We'd spend Thursday night in a tent in the park - one time we were kept awake all night by a screech owl in a nearby palm tree.

Ostensibly we were looking for a geocache in the tree, but there were so many people with dogs around we gave up.

Still in San Francisco - Even the furniture is trying to escape! I was informed, while taking pics of this building, that the city had sold this building, as it's been empty for about five years and the owners had not done anything to improve it. Also that it was the source of all the mother bedbugs, as there was a local invasion of them. The guy telling me this also told me he used to be the drummer for Natalie Cole's band and had travelled all over the world with her, but had fallen on hard times lately.

Apparently, this is sort of a piece of artwork as well as a decrepit building, but according to this website, it's sadly scheduled for demolition. ;_;

And wouldn't you know it, I've had sushi three times this month, and every time, haven't had my camera with me! Grrr!

My daughter had a dental appointment this morning, so afterward we stopped at Starbucks and had a muffin, then walked around the nearby Westminster Civic Center for a little bit. Now, Westminster, the next town over from mine, likes to emulate its namesake in Merrie Olde Englande, thus an old red phonebooth near City Hall...

Out to do some fun stuff with the fry today; I had the bright idea of showing them the Point Fermin Lighthouse, but unfortunately there was some fair going on, and you couldn't get near it. So we just went up the hill a little bit to the Korean Friendship Bell, a gift to the city of Los Angeles from the people of Korea in 1976.

Another Waymark; I noticed there was a category for "Lion statues" so I thought I'd enter the one at the top of the auditorium of my old high school, since he's a bit high up and I'm not sure anyone notices him all that much. The buildings were just recently renovated; although, apparently, he was in fine shape and didn't need anything. These buildings are about 84 years old.

Last time I travelled, I came across an article in one of those backseat magazines that had some nifty places to stay; I wrote down all the websites to check out later and I just came across that piece of paper on my desk (putting them here so I can throw it in the recycling). I'd love to try them out sometime. Maybe after the kids have moved out.

Sweden - a 747 that's been turned into a hostel.

Switzerland - The Anti-Luxury Hotel - 0 Starsl

  • military-style bunks in place of beds
  • hot water bottles to make up for no central heating
  • earplugs in case you can’t sleep because of the noise from the fans
  • complimentary slippers if floors are icy
  • no windows, just four white walls everywhere you look
  • hot water to shower in is limited, hence wheel of fortune will determine who will have to shower in cold water

Idaho - For the Ultimate Beagle Lover

Austria - Sleep in a drainpipe.

Netherlands - stay in a lighthouse, a lifeboat, or a crane in the harbor...

And finally, not a hotel, but you can buy one to live in...Tree Pod Houses.

What is wrong with me? I never even finished posting my trip to Spokane. Certainly having a lack of motivation for just about everything. :p

After meetings Saturday, I talked a couple of colleagues into walking downriver to ride the purple gondolas across the Lower Falls. It was a nice long ride too, about 15 minutes. It would stop occasionally until a new batch of passengers got on. The only discomfort was the little cars had no ventilation except for the top six inches of window being open. On a really hot day, it would have been very uncomfortable. On the return trip, I looked up to see the cow skull decorations on the old bridge above us.
