I came in yesterday morning and found two Lego game sets and a couple of small Dragonball Z posters on my desk chair. Apparently, DP's son is totally over DBZ; he was cleaning his room and DP came in and found the posters in the trash. She told me she kind of got verklempt -"You're throwing those away? *sniff sniff*" - since that was something she and her son used to enjoy together. And indeed that was one of the first things I found we had in common when I was training her to do docks - "What, another adult who's actually heard of it?!"

One of the posters is a Where's Waldo-style collage of probably all the characters (and quite a few at different points in their lives) who appear in both series (DB and DBZ), and she confided she was hoping I'd put it up in my office so she could still see it. I stuck it up in one of my only bare spaces left, behind my computer monitor and next to a California Seafood Index poster about the same size, where it won't be really obvious. The only thing about it is Vejita should be more prominent - it's definitely Goku centric.

I'll probably put the other poster up in the kid's room at home, and save the games until the holidays.

----------

In other rants, there is a sign in breakroom to the effect of "if you take the last of the coffee, please make another pot. Use 3 rounded scoops." Well, the scoops disappeared from the coffee container and was replaced with a plastic teaspoon. Now, people, I know most of you like your coffee somewhat less strong than I do, but 3 teaspoons does not 3 scoops make!!! A scoop equals 2 tablespoons! If you look at the directions, it's supposed to be a tablespoon per serving, so even the original instructions made for weak coffee. Three teaspoons in a 10 cup pot, to quote Jasmine in Baghdad Cafe, "is not coffee, is nasty brown water!"

Blecch!

I joined a club at DA for artists interested in science, and eek, I actually submitted a contest entry. The theme was some kind of celestial body. I don't know ifyou can really call it creative though; I just followed a tutorial I found, but i did learn a few more things about Photoshop I didn't know before. Mine turned into a bit of fanart I suppose you'd call it.

Link because I'm tired, and I need to get laundry in before I go to bed. Kids are going camping with Grandma this weekend and nothing is clean...

(well, this was meant for [livejournal.com profile] prince_veggie, but I neglected to click which journal so you guys get it too)

I was just listening to Into the Woods and was reminded of this. What does a Broadway musical have to do with Saiyan royalty, you ask?

Years ago, when I first got interested in DBZ, I remember finding a fansite called Pork n' Senzu Beans. It had some pretty funny stories on it - one of which was a bit of reworked Broadway, with Goku and Vejita cast as the princes in Into the Woods and singing "Agony" about their respective mates, who appear and scream at them at the appropriate moments. Since I'm also a huge Stephen Sondheim fan as well, this just had me in stitches.

Original Agony Lyrics... )

It also had a story from our dear Prince's POV - an essay required for an anger management course Bulma made him take, as well as a bunch of other funny stories.

I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to have a look at those again. Unfortunately, this site seems to have disappeared and I can't remember titles or the author's name. Does anyone happen to know if the author posted those anywhere else?

Well, they have every other part of my life, so they were bound to show up there sooner or later...

I had a dream last night where I met my brother Dave at a bus stop, and when he appeared he was dressed up like Vash the Stampede. He had bleached his hair and spiked it up, had yellow sunglasses and a long red coat. Except it had a pair of zippers instead of buttons.

Where the heck did that come from? He doesn't even watch anime. He's too short to be Vash anyway, a couple of inches shorter than I am.

Awhile ago, I had one where I was still in college, and Vegeta was my roommate. We shared an apartment. No, unfortunately, nothing more than that. He was a decent guy, if easily pissed off. I think he actually cleaned and did the dishes. For some reason, there was a crane on our street (which was the street in front my parent's house) for removing trees or something; it pissed him off for some reason and he knocked it over with a gesture from half a block away. That's about all I remember from that one. Funny thing was I dreamed him as a real person, not an animated one. But if you asked me now, I couldn't tell you the difference.

Maybe if I had more dreams like that, I'd remember them more often.

Last night Avalon was playing with Vejita and Goku action figures I got at Burger King a year or two ago. After making them pretend to fly around for awhile, she tossed Vejita up in the air - he came straight down and bopped her on the nose. She looked surprised for a moment, and I told her, "Vejita got you on the nose huh? He's good at that."

Whereupon she pointed at him lying on the floor and shouted, "I 'ate 'oo!" several times (she's not quite three, she doesn't speak quite clearly yet).

Then she picked him back up and was making him hug Goku.

Hee-hee.

I don't know why, but I but I never associated Vegita with harsh rock music, as I've often seen on fan sites. For some reason, maybe because I'm an incurable romantic, this Neil Finn song always reminds me of him. Picture whatever mate you wish, Bulma if you're canon, or Goku, if you're not (I'm open to either). To me, either fits, although don't ask me where the "high heels" line comes in. Neil Finn (formerly of Split Enz and Crowded House) doesn't always make sense.

If I were capable of writing a songfic or making an AMV, I'd use this song.

(you can hear a clip at Amazon - at the bottom)

Thanks to Bakayaro Onna's friends Joules and Xero Sky, I have discovered new ways to waste my time. Like I needed any more (but it's always fun to find them).

  • Alien Dice - Joules mentioned this web comic in her blog a little while ago, so I finally meandered over and checked it out. I then spent the entire weekend reading almost two years worth of comics! Now I that I am caught up, thank goodness I will be limited to only one a day or I'd never leave my computer! A main character who may or may not be alien with a bunch of intelligent animal sidekicks - what's not to like? Zeta the sallomandyr is now adorning my desktop at work - I did put Lexx there, but V. thought he looked creepy. So I succumbed to the cuteness.
    chibi Lexx

  • Vejita's nekkid!

Dress Vegeta - "Vegeta has no fashion sense - he needs some help." Oh, this is very, very scary. I showed it to Angus and he loves it - now I've probably warped his little five-year-old mind for life. The creators of this would be smoldering ashes in a crater somewhere if the Prince were real - I don't think he'd have much of a sense of humor about it.

(Puts the mermaid costume on him and sneaks look over shoulder, then adds a pink wig and the kitty cat)

Heh, I've always liked men in drag.

    Please don't kill me!

  • Of course, Joules and Xero are themselves big causes of my wasting time, as they are talented writers who write delectable fan fiction, as well as other wonderful stuff.
