Umm, Happy Solstice? It's kind of hard to tell it's the first day of summer here - the June Gloom has been pretty fierce. It may have been sunny for a few hours by the time I leave work, but often by the time I get home to HB, the marine layer is starting to form up again. On the second leg of my flight home from Spokane the week before last, I was sitting next to a couple who were recent transplants to Seattle from Sacramento. They asked if I was coming or going; when I said I was heading home to Orange County, the girl sighed and said "Ah, you live in the SUN!" They were en route to visit his brother who lived in Irvine. If they really wanted sun I hope they weren't too disappointed, although Irvine is few miles inland and it probably clears up sooner.

Side note: she apparently was a Starbucks employee who had seemed to have totally bought into the company propaganda; she spent several minutes asking me whether I liked them, which baked goods were my favorites (apparently, they only sell maple oat nut scones in California - and quite frankly, while I like my strong coffee, I'm not so much of a connoisseur that I can tell one variety from another). She had me read a printout, apparently from the company's annual report, of all the goals reached, or newly set. They seemed to be making progress on most of them except for electricity use, which they were supposed have cut down on 25% by 2010. It's only been about 1.5%. Maybe they should start grinding their beans with a crank.

Yeah, the weather has been weird but now it's finally starting to get hot, at least here in the San Fernando Valley.

Wow, a really devoted employee, I guess? I can't say I care too much for any of their baked goods, to be honest. I prefer the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. (Though honestly not all their baked stuff is to my taste either, but they're kosher locally so that helps.)

Well, the sun was out when I came back from lunch, but sometimes it'll hug the coast all day. I don't mind - I'm not that much of a sun worshipper and can't handle heat well.

I guess I generally mostly go there for coffee, plain coffee, maybe once or twice a week when I haven't had time to make any myself. One of my coworkers swears they put something in it that makes it addictive. But another friend of mine shares your preference; however, she doesn't really drink coffee, it's gotta be one of the expensive blendy drinks. I think it's mostly that there are 10 Starbucks for every 1 CBTL, at least in my area. Plus I kind of got attached to Starbucks from the time I spent in Seattle when my brother lived there, before they parasitized everywhere.

The maple scone is favored more by John than by me,I'm not all that fond of maple. The little bite-size things for a buck or so are nice, when you just want a taste of something and I like things with fruit in them. I suspect I probably couldn't tell baked good from one or other either - I'm just not a super taster (if I were I probably wouldn't have just snarfed a bag of cookies from the machine downstairs). But I can for sure make better lemon squares myself.

Blather blather. Is that Legato?

I like maple but I'm not terribly fond of scones, actually. But I should try some of those little ones, I've seen them there lately.

Yes, that is indeed Legato. The only Trigun icon I have left...
