senoritafish: (Do the Aquaman Butt-Dance!)
We did finally make it to Anime Expo. We really only strolled around the dealer's room and gawked at costumes. I was a little irked that the website said children 5 and under were free, and then when I got there, they told me, no it was two and under. They did let Avalon slide, but I still had to buy and admission for Gareth that I wasn't planning on. The plan was, I would go with the kids for a few hours, then come home and pick up John and we could see some panels and watch some things. I didn't realize until after I got home, though, that registration closed earlier, at 5 pm instead of 9 pm. I would have liked to stay longer, but the kids were getting tired - Avalon and Gareth both conked out on the way home.

People were so friendly, though - I was wearing my blue DBZ baseball shirt and I passed a black guy wearing the same one. We both pointed at each other, said "Same shirt," and then he grinned and held up his hand for a high five; I was obliged to transfer camera, bags and children's hands to the other before I could return it. ;) At a T-shirt booth, where I was selecting a couple of belated Father's Day presents for John (shirts with Captain America and Homer Simpson) the salesgirl admired my shirt and had to hug when she found we shared a favorite DBZ character (well, us and 75% of the fandom - I'm hardly unique in that respect). And I did get to say hi to one of the very talented artists I discovered at DA - GoblinQueeen, and got to see the originals of a couple of her pieces I already had favorited there (such as Free to Good Home). I wish I could have actually bought something from her - I would have, if I'd been able to come back.
