senoritafish: (Beeyooteefull Tree)
Well, the tree is somewhat decorated. The few glass ornaments are up near the top, and the boys put on all the wooden and fairly non-breakable ornaments on the bottom. Yesterday morning, we put different colored candy canes on it - which in hindsight may have been a mistake. They keep getting removed and I know I'm going to find them all over the house.

I love going through all the old Christmas ornaments - a few we made when we were kids, ones that were given to us by old friends, the ones my mom bought, my grandmother's blue glass ball - hmm, I haven't seen that one yet this year, where is it? In the boxes are old Christmas cards my brothers and I made in elementary school, and a cardboard star covered with glitter, with an angel face made from half a walnut shell. It used to have yarn hair, but it fell off years ago. Never mind - we still keep it as a much beloved memento of years past.

We didn't put all the lights on the tree and the kids are fascinated by them so I've got the take the extras out to the garage. Probably a bit late to put any outside, but I did have some in the kitchen window, along with the flashing star of my Grandmother's - it used to be sparkly off-white with plastic gems for the light to shine through. Now it's the color of old ivory and the gems are faded somewhat - it probably won't be too long before I'll have to discard it as a fire hazard. I went outside to see how it looked - it really makes all the cat noseprints on the window stand out. :p

Guess I need to wash the windows, too.

Hmmm, a cover version of "Don't Dream It's Over" - it's not bad! I had heard about this on my Tongue in the Mail list, but this is fhe first time I've heard it. I like them anyway.

Ah, clean kitchen floor feels so nice on bare feet.

Yes, I'm a slob. I tend to let it go in the hope that someone else will recognize how disgusting it's becoming. Unfortunately, nobody ever does. And I mean truly disgusting - it's white, so every smidgen dropped glares LIKE A VAST LAKE OF PUS! (Stop that. Sorry folks, channeling that chef John Cleese played in Monty Python once. All that was coming was "a sore thumb" - how dull.)

Anyhow, the boys wanted to help, so I let them push the mop around for a bit ( they wern't into scrubbing the stuck on bits with the scratch pad) . They got upset with me for wanting to finish before dinner came out of the oven.

So am I bad person for longing for the day when they can start doing chores like this?

I enjoyed the Tori Amos concert earlier this week, although it set me back quite bit and as a result John isn't going to get a second present. Oh well, I'll get him something extra when we get our tax return.

Anyhow, I probably would have enjoyed it more if I were more familiar with her music. I have one EP - Winter - and what I've heard on the radio. I was quite impressed with her playing, and the fact that she could play a grand piano with one hand, her electric with the other and sing intensely for more than two hours straight. She didn't do much in the way of patter, which would have helped me, a relative newbie, understand her music a little better. The one or two times she tried she seemed to be rather hoarse and was shouted down by her fans screaming "Tori!" at her, so she started singing again instead.

Johm asked me before I left if I was taking earplugs. I didn't think it was necessary - "She's a pianist," I thought.

Well.

I was wrong. Not only was it still loud, but her ardent (yes, male) admirer directly behind us screaming "WHOOO, TORI!" every 5 seconds made my ears buzz every time he did it. I guess I don't understand why the sound has to be so loud that the music and words are distorted. By stopping my ears I could actually hear better. I guess it helps if you know all the words to begin with. Was it my imagination, or is a lot of her music in a minor key? Next time I'll have listened to a few more albums.

And the people watching was quite interesting too.
