I enjoyed the Tori Amos concert earlier this week, although it set me back quite bit and as a result John isn't going to get a second present. Oh well, I'll get him something extra when we get our tax return.

Anyhow, I probably would have enjoyed it more if I were more familiar with her music. I have one EP - Winter - and what I've heard on the radio. I was quite impressed with her playing, and the fact that she could play a grand piano with one hand, her electric with the other and sing intensely for more than two hours straight. She didn't do much in the way of patter, which would have helped me, a relative newbie, understand her music a little better. The one or two times she tried she seemed to be rather hoarse and was shouted down by her fans screaming "Tori!" at her, so she started singing again instead.

Johm asked me before I left if I was taking earplugs. I didn't think it was necessary - "She's a pianist," I thought.

Well.

I was wrong. Not only was it still loud, but her ardent (yes, male) admirer directly behind us screaming "WHOOO, TORI!" every 5 seconds made my ears buzz every time he did it. I guess I don't understand why the sound has to be so loud that the music and words are distorted. By stopping my ears I could actually hear better. I guess it helps if you know all the words to begin with. Was it my imagination, or is a lot of her music in a minor key? Next time I'll have listened to a few more albums.

And the people watching was quite interesting too.

I have to plug my ears whenever I go somewhere to listen to music, like the North Texas Irishfest. My ears start humming if I don't.

Yes, I have become a oekaki fiend. Just put FOUR (4) more out and have quite a few lying in wait to post before the end of the year. Plus who knows how many new ones will occur before December 31st. I have become addicted to it - it really helps to gear down a day or get me unstressed after work.

Wow! I thought I was up late!

I noticed we have similar taste in music when you mentioned what CDs were lying around your computer - I don't know anyone else who even knows who Brother is. Yes, earplugs next time - no matter what kind of music.

I guess this is my addiction. I'm on here waaaay to much.

I get exhausted at the office, come home and fall in a heap after dinner, snore for nor more than 30 minutes (usually only 10 minutes of that weird drift-in-and-out-sleep) then I find myself staying up TOO damned late the rest of the evening.

A Brother fan, huh? I Love that Romp and Circumstance!

Actually I only have Pipe Dreams, but they used to play at the Highland Games near me. Somehow bagpipes and dideridoo just go quite well together. Not too mention good-looking guys with long hair in kilts......all right, stop me now!

They often play at the Troubador, which is right around the corner from my brother's house in West Hollywood, but I never manage to get up there.

Darn it, now I've got to go put on something Celtic.....

i think she likes the intense emotional feelings the minor key lends to her music. i love to sing along with her in my car. right in my range always in the right key. i should venture out to see tori if she ever comes to sacramento. i always play safe and do the earplug thing. concerts shouldn't be so loud. if you have to crank it so everyone can hear, then you have too many people there and you need to play a smaller venue. although a great deal of the excitement at a concert is because the music is so loud.

Yes, I'm definitely going to have listen to more of her music - I'm really only familiar with what's been on the radio. Although I like her version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit."
