I was going to do this with the fake trees!

(I think I have better pics, and he doesn't have any descriptions)

(San Diego County seems to have the most diverse fake trees)

(An entire article dedicated to one fake tree!)

(and the BBC reports that in Europe they're taking the shape of "chimneys, clocks, windows, drainpipes, even as weathervanes"!)

(This person thinks fake trees are following him...)

(And of course they're going to kill us all... I wouldn't have included this one except it had a fake cactus a friend of mine saw out in Palm Springs...)

Last one I have a picture of. This one is at the northbound rest stop on Interstate 5, just north of Oceanside, right in the middle of Camp Pendleton. That big round thing with the lightning bolt looks natural, doesn't it. :p

Tree for truckers... )

It's also the first one I've seen with lights on the top. Well, there are a lot of helicopters flying around there.
or maybe it's a big Christmas tree... )

That's all my fake trees for now. If you're a weirdo like me and take pictures of fake trees, you can send 'em to me and I'll post 'em. But I think I need to walk around for a bit. My butt's getting flat.

I couldn't believe how detailed they got on the trunk though.

Note - close up of the real tree right next to it:

the real deal... )

and the fake:
here )

Again, the warning sign and the gigantic bolts on the base clue you in:

franken-tree? )

A fan palm this time. Not hiding much with the fronds....

Located behind a shopping center in Huntington Beach, and poking up over the stores, this one seems to be emulating a redwood. It does a pretty good job of hiding the antenna.

(Just to save on my picture host's bandwidth, I'm going to start putting these behind a cut - if you're not used to Live Journal, click the words in the parens to see the pictures.)

This time somewhere in Irvine, near a self-storage place.

One of these things is not like the other.... )

By the way, this is a plain unadorned antenna, if you didn't know what I've been talking about. Meant to post it in the beginning, but I misplaced it, sorry. I wonder if they retrofit the old ones?

Why is senoritafish posting so darn much today? Click here, if you missed it. By the way, anyone still interested in sponsoring me has 'til tomorrow night to sign up. Thanks so much to everyone who has so far.

I think the pine is a little better at hiding the antennae..

They even get pretty detailed with the trunks, but the warning sign is a dead giveaway...

I went on a garden tour in April with a friend of mine (pics of which I may post here later since I've never gotten around to it). I started point these fake trees out to her, and she was shocked! She'd never noticed them before! This is one I pointed out to her, and strangely enough, she did not think I was completely crazy to want to stop and take a picture of it. In the rain, no less. This one is of the pine variety.

And this one is across the street from it, in an abandoned lumber yard. Not quite as good at hiding the antenna parts, but the swollen part of the trunk under the fronds is getting more towards realistic...
