I am grateful for Bott's dots. What are Bott's Dots, you say? They're those bumps on the painted lane stripes. More properly called pavement markers, I guess.
They served their purpose. I was only a block or so away from my house coming home from work yesterday, and was jolted awake by them when I drifted into the island in the center of the street. I hadn't even realized I closed my eyes.
Maybe I am too old to stay up for 24 hours. More likely it was the combination of two kids climb into bed with us last night and waking me up, instead of only one, and getting up at 4:30 for docks. Gareth was having nightmares. He also woke me up when he got up and announced "I'm going back to bed." Good for you.
Anyway, thank you, Elbert Bott.
Edit: I remember asking my mother what the bumps were for, when I was kids. She was paying attention to the road (as she should have been) instead of thinking about her reply, and answered, "So blind people know what lane they're in."
