senoritafish: (so tired...)

I feel really bad - with warm weather lately, the fleas got out of hand quickly. I delayed ordering Advantage (about the only thing that really works for fleas here in so. CA) because we were getting low on funds, and Bob was really suffering from them. I should have given him a bath when I noticed he kept jumping up on the furniture instead of walking on the floor. Well, the Advantage came yesterday ($49.99 for six little tubes! Gah!) and I bathed him before I put it on. I was horrified at how much flea dirt came off him into the water. I left him in the bathroom with the heater on to get dry, and put the stuff on his neck when he was. There is nothing so undignified looking as a wet cat. But now, hopefully, he'll be more comfortable.

Stimpy and Goldie got it too, but Spot needs a bath as well, before he gets his. He's a white fluffy cat; right now he looks like he's been hanging out under cars and has more black spots than he originally came with. Poor guy, he's definitely the lowest in the hierarchy, although at least Stimpy doesn't pick fights with him anymore. I've never tried giving him a bath before, so I hope he cooperates. If he doesn't, I'll have to take him to the vet - which he needs anyway.

It's funny - cats I can't handle are no problem for the groomer's. However, they can't handle Bob. He gives me very little trouble other than trying to jump out of the tub, but when I've left him at the vet's, I get a call at work asking "We're going to have to sedate Bob. He's very angry." I don't know - maybe they just get intimidated beforehand with all the florescent orange Will Bite! stickers on his chart. So I'd rather just do him myself. We'll see about Spot.

Oh, and I have a cold now - I guess it's finally my turn.

the first two cats we had were pretty easy to bathe. we just stuck them up to their necks in buckets full of warm water (the tall, narrow shape relative to that of the bathtub made escape more difficult) and they'd cling to the rim of the bucket forlornly as we soaped them up. the third cat was not such a breeze. the first encounter with water as a tiny kitten had him (and his sharp little claws!) scrambling up my arm, over my shoulder, and down my back. i never tried it on him again.

Yeowch! Yep, that's about my experience with Stimpy. He just turns into this ball of stiff legs and extended claws, and it's damn near impossible to hold onto him. Plus the yowling is earsplitting.

Thanks, they usually don't last too long with me. Our cats certainly rule us!
