Angus had a checkup yesterday in prep for his starting kindergarten in couple of weeks. He did very well in regards to getting his shots, blood taken and a TB test. He said "Ouch!" and that was it - he's ever been the stoic one. - well, except when Gareth decides to tackle him. He was quite proud of showing me all of his bandaids - two on each shoulder, scratches on his forearm, and a poke on his finger.

His hearing test, however, didn't go so well. He was supposed to say something when he heard a sound, but he didn't or wouldn't. They only noticed he was hearing because he was wincing when it was getting too loud.

I was a bit worried about John though. The last time he saw this particular doctor, Angus was still a baby and had a serious eczema breakout on his face. The treatment the pediatrician prescribed (over the counter hydrocortisone cream) was not working and it had gotten a secondary infection as well. It had started out as a small rash on his cheek and had expanded until it was well on its way to his eyelids. John demanded a referral to dermatologist, which this particular doctor refused, until John was actually threatening violence. He was not going settle for "Well, just keep doing what you're doing," or leave without a referral, and he's not afraid to get in people's faces when something needs to be done. "I've been in jail, I know what happens there, and I'm prepared for it," he tells me. The doctor finally recognized him and said, "Oh yeah, I remember you - you're the one who shoved me against the wall." (My italics - he did not tell me that's what he'd done the first time). He did come back and apologize to the doctor later. I'm glad he sticks to his guns, but I wish he could be a little more diplomatic about it.
