Gardening, Cooking and Dancing...

What if I were Heathcliff
It's no myth
Maybe she just looking for
Someone to dance with....."
Did he ever do anything else? I think I like this guy much better than his younger brother.
Will wonders never cease! Dad's cooking dinner! His specialties used to include meatloaf and chili, but since he took a microwave cooking class, oven chicken with 'taters, carrots and onions has been added to the list. Wow. He cooked stew on Sunday, too. Is he trying to turn over a new leaf?
When I went out in the front yard with the kids Wednesday, I started pulling some weeds. Well, not strictly weeds, it's actually purple morning glories, but we had one a couple of years ago, and now there are hundreds of them coming up everywhere. I pull one up and five sprout in its place. I picked an assortment of slightly-out-of-date seeds at the last garden club meeting I attended, including some packaged in paper "seed-tape" which makes them very easy to plant. Gareth helped me with them a couple of Sundays ago, and as of last Sunday, zinnias and marigolds were sprouting in a couple of neat rows. Not much, but Gareth was proud of himself. It was quite satisfying knowing something was coming up that wasn't a weed. While uprooted rougue morning glories, I looked for the zinnias, and every single seedling was gone! Damn snails must've waited until after I watered and munched every one of them. I need to transplant some of those carnivorous ones from the other side of the yard. In the meantime, there will crow food in the middle of the street, when I can find them.
Damn, I am reminded there was a garden tour in Irvine tomorrow. That sounds fun. I miss the Heard's Garden tour, which usually took place in April. Sadly, Mary Lou Heard passed away last September of colon cancer. No one took over organizing her tour, which was a big fundraiser for the Sheepfold, a shelter for domestic violence victims and their children. I should send them a donation in her memory. This tour gives the address to the first house, from which there are directions to the rest of them. I'd like to go, maybe it will give me some ideas. That's the problem though, isn't it - lot's of ideas and no follow through.... I am trying to actually get out in the yard at least a few times a week.
