Apr. 8th, 2003 11:54 amIt's always a little disconcerting when the building starts to rumble and the roaring starts. It usually causes a lot of prairie dogging, as in people standing up in their cubicles to look out the window. Four military jets taking off, one after the other; unusual in that they took off to the east instead of the west. Also unusual that I saw them before they took off; normally, by the time you hear them, they're already out of sight. Just a reminder that there's a war on, and our office (along with a lot of residential neighborhoods and the 405 freeway) is right between the Los Alamitos National Guard Air Base, and the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. We've had a couple of emergency drills where an alarm goes off, and everyone grabs their stuff to head outside near the fence, so everyone can be accounted for. Something my supervisor brought up though, is there may emergencies where you don't want to go outside. Brrr - I don't want to think about it.
But we've been told we should keep emergency supplies at our desks, which is probably a good idea anyway, in case of earthquakes at the very least. I just haven't done it yet. Where am I going to put 3 gallons of water under my desk?
