Thankgiving week....

My, it's been a busy week.
Did docks on Monday, where one of the boat captains gave me an earfull on what were the reasons for putting a no-fishing reserve at Anacapa Island ( you know, don't tell me you don't), hundreds of people are going to lose their jobs, we've been fishing there for a hundred years, the sea lions would be starving if it weren't for us (?!), damn birds, we're not doing anything to the freakin' birds, they fly all around us when we're fishing, China is just going to buy squid from another country instead of us, and somehow this all tied in with 9/11 and national security, too, I'm not sure how. I tried to paste a sympathetic smile on my face and just gave him someone to vent on. After that he was perfectly happy and gave me the info I needed.
Then trying to figure out which boats have and haven't been turning in logs. Kristine said my number weren't matching, and after close inspection of my program, which I haven't used in ages, I discovered a checkmark which shouldn't have been there. Then Excel decided to screw with me as I mentioned earlier. John was hoping I would get off early on Wednesday, but I had to finish the December sampling schedule so S. would know she had to work early on Monday.
Then trying to finish housecleaning before John's mom showed up for dinner. I got most of the living room cleared (ha!). While she had bought one of the dinners at Ralph's, John was still quite busy in the kitchen, making extra mashed potatoes, honey-clove glaze for the ham (I don't think it had too much ground cloves in it, but it still made my tongue numb), and wariming every thing up. When Connie finally arrived, we were all ready to eat, except the boys, who sat there and stared at it, despite acting all excited about dinner earlier.
But we had a pleasant enough Thanksgiving dinner, and Connie took the boys home with her. I thought it was going to start pouring as they left, the wind was blowing so hard - the kind of wind you get just before a thunderstorm when it's blowing straight down out of the cloud. The air even felt wet, but the rain never materialized. Damn.
This morning, we lazed around in bed and watched Harry Potter on HBO, almost the entire thing straight through. When it's been on before, I had only gotten to see bits and pieces of it. That was very nice - although the color is going out on our TV and most of it was in shades of green and yellow. I'm going to have to buy the DVD after the TV gets fixed (or we get a new one). Then when Avalon went down for a nap, we left Dad in charge and went out to breakfast (lunch really).
Hope everyone had a great holiday, and has lots to be Thankful for.
