This doesn't really apply to anyone who would really be reading this, but I was interested to read on [livejournal.com profile] news yesterday that LJ will start imposing limits on how many posts you can enter a day. I was amazed at how much commentary it generated in the space of a few hours. While I rarely make more than 2 or 3 a day, and wouldn't come anywhere near the 20 (ack, now 50! - do some people really write that much?! Do they have any other life?) proposed for paid users, I was somewhat perplexed to see comments such as "A limit is good, because some of my friends post too much!"

Huh? I guess am still coming from the place that your journal is primarily for yourself, although it's gratifying to have your friends read it and get some feedback. You can put any damn thing in there you please (per the TOS), or as often as you please - especially if you happen to be having a bad day. Why not? If you do have a limited number just use subheadings in one post. Granted, if you're a polite person, and realize that other people are reading it, you can make it easier for them by using cut tags and such. But by the same token, if someone is doing something annoying in their journal (and it's their journal, not a community), you can either 1) tell them - maybe they're not aware (politely, I would hope - "and here's how you can fix that...") or 2) filter them out until they get over whatever is annoying you. You do have some control, you don't have to read everything that scrolls in front of your eyes!

This seems like the same argument in favor of censorship because some people can't figure out how to change the channel or turn anything off. I would post this over there, but it would just get buried in the morass of a thousand other comments. And I can see why they would need limits - I'm not opposed to them, just the reasoning (not the LJ staff's, the makers of the above comment).

I hope I haven't been being annoying. You'd tell me, wouldn't you?

I hope now that you've had all the major work done, it will heal quickly. I wish I had some more helpful suggestions for you, other than get well soon.
