So fall is almost here. The light has a different quality to it, the naked ladies are blooming, the few deciduous trees are starting to turn brown (the sycamores are already dropping them, but the elms will not be bare until Christmas) and candy corn is showing up in the grocery stores. These little pieces of quinitissential empty calories are one of the few fall-colored items that show up here in southern California. Typically, now is when we get our hottest weather, when the normal wind from the ocean reverses and the hot dry Santa Anas blow in from the desert, starting the fire season. Something always burns down.

And it's September again. I'm sitting here listening to NPR; the anniversary coverage is starting early. Is the press being too unpatriotic, security vs.democracy, how family members are coping. Even the MiniPage in the paper had something about it last week. Hmmm, only one comic strip in the paper acknowledging it today, though-Rudy Park, usually one of the most irreverent (reminds me of Bloom County). I spent a couple of hours Friday night, reading missing pieces at fray.com. There are some eighteen pages of people's stories there. I wish they had dates associated with them.

The boys are taking a nap with very little protest, compared to yesterday. I suppose I should get them up soon. Angus needs some outside activity so we'll go for a walk once they get up. It's been a gorgeous day; we really should get outside.
