Actually if you click the little badge, it will take you to a page where you enter your zip code, and you can be added to a list of other LJ people in your area. Once a month, the Meet-up website selects several venues (usually a restaurant, but sometimes a Starbucks or a bowling alley) in your area and whoever is on the list can vote on them. Then the fourth Tuesday of the month you get together at said venue and yak. We've gone to several in the Orange County (oc)area, and they were usually pretty fun. A lot of interesting people (some of the people on my friends list I met there), although I think we were the oldest ones there. Not the only ones with kids, though.
The only thing is, there were tons of people last summer, and now quite a few people have stopped going. So I was trying to rattle some cages. I think John scared them. ;)
There's also a Dragonball meetup, but there's only about 17 people signed up for it for the entire world. As a result, there's only a couple of people anywhere near me, and it always gets cancelled.

You might search and see if there's a yaoi fan group!
