senoritafish: (Grrrrr!)

grrr... I am just battin' a 1000 lately.

So far recently, I have misplaced my phone, the camera's battery charger, and my little green SD card reader.

Finally found the phone yesterday after about a month of it being missing. I'd had to go to a meeting in La Jolla, and actually bought a very cheap backup, so I'd been using that in the meantime. My dad had been making noises about getting one, so I figured I'd just switch it over to him once I finally found mine. Gareth found it yesterday, inside John's nebulizer; how it got in there I have no idea, because the last place I remember having it was reading LJ on it in bed (and I probably fell asleep, that's how I lost it). So we switched the backup over to Dad, and he has a cell phone now - he mainly wanted it for emergencies or in case the car breaks down, but now we can also call him at the store if he forgets something. I put Benny Goodman's Sing, Sing, Sing on it for a ringtone, haha.

Also, one of my managers insisted (well, strongly suggested) I get a work cell, which I hadn't gotten so far because I would really only use it when travelling. I just been using my personal phone because 1) I really didn't want to carry around two cell phones, 2) it probably would only get a couple of hours worth of use in a year, if that. Easy enough to put $6 worth of calls on a travel expense claim. She thought it would be better for safety reasons - although why a Dept. phone is safer than my own phone, I don't know. So I've been given the phone of a coworker who retired - and weirdly enough it's a music phone, although I think all the stuff for downloading music is blocked (and I wouldn't do that anyway), there's nothing stopping you from putting some of your own on a little microSD card (which I have). It also has a much nicer camera than my own phone; however, that fact that it has a camera at all means I can't take it with me when I have a meeting in the Federal building. Probably means they think they can just call me when I'm off now, which is why it occurred to manager in the first place - she'd tried to call me on a furlough day when I was home, and my personal phone needed to be topped up, so she got an out-of-service message.

The battery charger and the card reader are especially frustrating. I've looked everywhere I thought I've used them recently and no dice. With the charger especially, I try to be extra good about putting it back in the cameral bag after the batteries are charged. The last I remember with the card reader was removing it from my laptop and slipping it into a pocket on leaving work. I discovered the charger was missing after an LJ friend made an announcement that she'd had her baby and the plan was she wanted everyone to take pictures for her first 24 hours, so she could make a scrapbook - which is a fantastic idea btw and I wish it weren't 8 to 12 years late for my own! I shot some pictures of the sunset on the way home from work, which is when I discovered both camera batteries were dead, and on arriving home, no charger. I did take some pics with the above mentioned phone, but with no USB, it's been a week and I can't download the photos from either the phone or the camera.

Going to Target at lunch to see if they have the same reader, but #$%&(*#^%(@Q$!!!!

I guess the good thing is surfaces needing clearing have been getting that way looking for these things. If they'd been that in the first place...well, I dunno, I'm still good at losing stuff. I'd forget my head if it wasn't screwed on. I've also found at least a dozen pencils the kids have just laid down wherever when doing their homework - one of which they can never find when they start on the the next day, and "Mom, can you sharpen me a new one?"
