Sadly, I think this is the imprint of a deceased mourning dove I observed near the entrance awhile ago - tha glass outside my cubicle is just above the door. They only wash the second floor windows every month or two, and this appeared shortly after the last washing. It's been there for several weeks already. I'm actually kind of amazed at how detailed it is; you can see prints of individual feathers.

Someone had a whole picture log of these (forget where); apparently the collision doesn't necessarily kill the bird.

Occasionally, we'll hear a huge thump on the windows and outside on the ground there'll be a very dazed mallard, that eventually recovers and flies away.

Their survival probably depends on how fast they're moving when they hit and/or how much padding their bodies have.
