Two fillings today. I needed three vials of anesthetic - I don't know if that's normal or not. The dentist has to keep stopping and giving me more because I start wincing; my mouth didn't get completely back to normal until about four hours later.

Final diorama - I printed out the background for her (a couple of pics of mine from Laguna Beach, so I don't know if that's cheating) and applied hot glue, but she assembled everything herself.

And Gareth had to get into the act by using some of the leftovers to make these little cows; I'm not sure many city kids his age even know there's a difference between a bull and a cow...

Aw, those are cute cows.

City kids tend to use the word "cow" for cows and bulls.

I guess I was thinking that he did know the difference, because the bovine in the foreground sure has some shoulders! Whereas the white one is very rounded. These are really little (about 1½" long), so I think he didn't room for many details.

No, I agree, it does look like he knows the difference.

I think it's typical. I seem to remember my specialist giving me three or so shots because the area just wouldn't numb enough so he could start working.

I have often had dentists express surprise that I wasn't numb yet, or that they had to give me more in the middle of drilling because it was already wearing off. Either I'm bigger than they think or I'm overly sensitive, I dunno.

Numbing effect

Mardie has a similar problem any type on numbing shots. Dentist had to give her the same amount. I also remember that when she had a tooth removed they gave her an IV drip waited till the right amount of time and then started in. It cut the pain a little put she was still in a lot of pain during and after the surgery. I had Lasic eye surgery done in Jan 08 and found that they hadn't numbed my eyes enough. They couldn't wait to put in more numbing drops since the procedure had already started so I had to suffer through in quite a bit of pain. hydrocodone/acetaminophen (Vicodin) also has very little effect on my. Just makes me loopy AND still in pain. Oxycodone works great. Guess my body just likes heaver narcotics.
