Warm weather brings groups of wild pine cones out to forage.


Herding behavior of wild pine cones

This individual appears to be a sentry, keeping watch for predators while the rest of the herd feeds... Note the extended scales, signifying wariness.

(actually just a bunch knocked down by the recent high winds...)

I think there is some herding behavior of Norway spruce cones in my front yard.....Now that I know what to look for, I will have to keep an eye on them....! ;)
