Monday and Tuesday here in Southern California were record high temperatures for this time of year - it got up to 86°F with Santa Ana winds blowing.

Now a cold front is coming down from the north, and we just got this in our email:

SPECIAL ALERT - State Emergency and Health Officials Urge Preparedness in Response to Extreme Cold Forecasts

With meteorologists expecting a hard freeze to affect much of the State by Thursday night, State officials with the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) and the California Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) today urged Californians to prepare themselves, their family members, and their animals for the possible effects of the inclement weather.

The National Weather Service has reported to OES that temperatures will drop into the 20 and 30s Wednesday night into Thursday, followed by daytime temperatures in the mid 40s in most areas. On Friday and into the weekend, temperatures will drop further, reaching the high teens to low 20s in most areas at night, and continued daytime lows in the mid 40s.

Actions that can be taken to help protect against severe cold and freezing temperatures are in the attached cold weather alert released by the Governor's Office of Emergency Services and the California Health and Human Services Agency.

...possibly in the 20s and teens even here by the coast through the weekend. The California National Guard Armories are opening as cold weather shelters for the homeless even here in Orange and L.A. counties.

I find it somewhat amusing that the Governor's Office of Emergency Services homepage has logos for both COLD! and HOT! on the same page. I do wish the weather would decide what season it is, so I know what to wear in the morning. This is an El Niño year, but there hasn't been that much rain yet (although it is supposed to tomorrow).

Y'know, I thought of you when my husband told me I was wrong, that this year isn't an El Nino year...because it "Runs in twenty year cycles..." and then didn't want to discuss it further with me because he wasn't interested.

...

I wanted to refer him to your journal. Sometimes he pisses me off so damned much...*grrrrr*

it is freezing ass cold. i forgot to turn the heat on in my house and it was 61 degrees by the time i got around to it. it is f-ing cold! my job sent out a message. if we have freezing rain tomorrow morning, i am going to call out sick to work. i want nothing of the idiots on the road tomorrow. the dogs are in the house (but when are they not) and the boy is in bed. i have an extra duvet on my bed and i feel like i need the dogs in my bed, but i gave them to the boy to get him off to a warm start. good thing my gas didn't get turned off this month. i feel for our homeless. i really do.
