(Post made primarily to use the above (or below, according to your style) song as the current music.)

An mp3 player on shuffle is a dangerous thing. In A Thing Called Love, Bonnie Raitt sings:

I ain't no porcupine
Take off your kid gloves

If she were a porcupine, wouldn't you want to use something considerably heavier? Falconry gauntlets come mind, or maybe steel ones. "Kid gloves" generally means to handle something with delicacy and tact; I wasn't aware that erethizontidid rodents were particularly emotionally sensitive. However, they are prickly. And a prickly human is defined as being troublesome, vexatious or easily irritated.

This is why John always used to give his mom a cactus for Mother's Day.

If you were handling a porcupine, you'd handle it reeeeeeeeally gently and carefully, right? I can see where the lyrics are coming from, even if they aren't particularly good.

Aw, I know what she means - I'm just being overly literal. And using literal kid-gloves (very soft lambskin or goat leather)on a porcupine wouldn't work all that well, even if you were giving it "kid-glove" treatment.

Forgive me, I sometimes do this just trying to be dead-pan funny; it usually causes a lot of rolling eyes, the way a bad pun does.

When I get a cactus as a gift (although I do my best not to be prickly), I'll know I've gone too far. However, I happen to like cactus, so I probably won't mind. ;)

I may have to take my iPod off shuffle, just so I can hear that song today. :)
