24 hours coming up...
Jun. 21st, 2005 12:15 pmI am trying to decide if I want to do the 24-hour blogging thing again this year. The original site doing this was Blogathon.org, but last year they decided to take a year off. ProjectBlog.org organized as a substitute just for last year, I thought. However, earlier this year they posted something about doing it again this year, on July 23rd. However, they have not updated their site since March, and if people are to register and start collecting sponsors, they're not even set up for that yet.
Blogathon has started updating its site, and their date is Aug 6th. I'm thinking I should just go with them, since they were the original ones anyway. If I even want to do it again; maybe I'm getting too old to stay up for 24-hours. Last year, I don't think I felt completely normal until Wednesday - I think it was worth it, though. And it was kind of fun... So I'm warning you now; be prepared for a post from me on your friends page every half an hour for 24 hours a month or so in the future. If that's going to bug you, you might want to set up a filter to screen me out.
Also, if I want to do a different charity...I picked The Nikki Hospice Foundation for Pets last year, after reading about them in Newsweek, because I wanted to do something as a memorial for Bob. Afterward I got a very nice letter from the president and she also sent a thick folder of information to everyone who sponsored me - who provided their address, anyway. She also said they were working on a new website, however, it seems exactly the same since I last looked at it. Maybe I should do something else this time. Possibly something more to help out efforts in tsunami areas, since I heard at the time for some things, wait a few months, sometimes organizations feel the pinch later.
Maybe I'll wait until they set up their charity list, and see what they have...

Date: 2005-06-21 07:43 pm (UTC)I think David is going to be traveling on August 6, but I have a babysitter lined up, and I don't have to work yet, so I might actually be up for doing it! Lemme know....

Date: 2005-06-21 08:36 pm (UTC)For people to sponsor you, you just had friends and family and such sign up at the website as well, for how much they wanted to sponsor you for - they could do this anonymously if they wished. I supplied the mailing address for where to send the donations and when it was over, Project-Blog sent out reminders to everyone who had registered. It was up to them to send it in, but apparently everyone did. I don't know if Blogathon works exactly the same or not.
I'll keep an eye on it and let you know...

Date: 2005-06-21 10:29 pm (UTC)Last year they had a chat set up for everyone to do the same. Or was it a Yahoo group? Same purpose anyway. :)
