Jun. 5th, 2005 05:01 pmFinally watched Whale Rider - since it's been sitting on my shelf for a couple of weeks, and I got tired of waiting for John to watch it with me. I watched while folding a couple of loads of laundry, so at least I got a little something done. What a beautiful, beautiful movie. It's on my wish list now. I'd like to read the book now, too. I still would like to watch the commentary, but maybe I'll wait until I can get my own copy.
I looked out the front window this morning and saw a crow fluttering around on the front walk, then sat with his beak down on the grass. There have been a lot of dead crows lately, with West Nile Virus. Someone at work told me they don't really even want them reported anymore, but I did anyway. Then I called animal control and they said they would send someone to pick it up. I asked if they take them somewhere to help them, but was told when they are in that condition, they only have about an hour left to live. I kept the kids inside until the animal control truck came, and then the guy just put it in a plastic bag and put it in the truck. I am a coward; maybe I should have wrung its neck and euthanized it more quickly, but having to do that to a dying pelican once left a very bad taste in my mouth. . I thought they might do it more humanely, but I guess not. I feel bad about it, but kids are susceptible to West Nile, and I wasn't going to let them out there until it was gone.
