Orange County's other Duke...




Native Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku was an Olympic swimming champion and sometime Hollywood actor who moved to Huntington Beach and pretty much got surfing started here. There is bust of him as an older man in the International Museum of Surfing a few blocks away. He passed away in 1968.

okay... i miss main street.
i admit it.
i don't miss much about california, but i miss the pier a lot...

the wall that has all the names on it by the pier has my dad's name on it... my mom and some of his old friends donated money in his name to rebuild the pier.

I always wanted to get my mom's name on it - she was very into the pier's restoration and loved going down there.

From your posts, you really seem a lot more content and happy since you went back east. It's good to see. :)
