river2sea72 inspired me...
These are called Eye of the Tiger irises... the Jetfire daffodils I planted among them for Gareth didn't make much of a showing. Maybe next year.
Does anyone know what these are? I think they came in a packet of wildflower seeds, but they've been blooming since they came up last summer.

Edit: a loveley person in
gardening told me they are Linum gradiflorum or scarlet flax. I remember seeing that name on the packet but I think it's the only thing that came up from it.
This is about the the only time of year parts of my yard looks decent. :p

Date: 2005-04-14 11:49 am (UTC)We have the little red ones all over the place right now. Many towns have designated areas where they plant wildflowers every year. The state also plants them in the grassy medians of major highways so a burst of colour occurs every year in the spring. We have a buttload of bluebonnets all over the place for a few weeks (state flower) with other wildflowers scattered among them. I call the red ones 'poppies' even though I know they are not.

They plant California poppies (our state flower) along some freeways. Unfortunately, it's not wide-spread, and most places have big oleander shrubs planted. I hate oleander. The desert is supposed to gorgeous with poppies, lupine and other wildflowers right now, because of all the rain we've had. I need to make a trip out to see them before they disappear.
