I can't believe I can use the client on the laptop again. I wind up sitting in the dining room until Angus goes to sleep (the better to see him trying to sneak down the hallway) and most of the time I try to make a post, I get "cannot contact server." I was thinking it was some setting on on the laptop I didn't know about, because I would give up and try the PC in the bedroom; it almost always worked, when I had been trying on the laptop for several hours. Very frustrating! I just tried the last post here in the dining room, and it went through! So is it the servers, or my machine?

Which version LJ client are you having the most problems with? or does the same delay happen with all of them?

All of them - even when I used the web page it would sit and think, think, think and either do nothing or eventually time out. John could post something or I could post something to oc, but not to my own journal. I did have a problem when ZoneAlarm was enabled, but I turned it off to post, and it worked.

I'm thinking there is some conflict between Semagic and LochJ. I had installed both and could log on with neither. I just uninstalled LochJ and could make the above post, but I was having the problem before I installed it

Hmm... I know some of the personal firewalls do cause problems like that. It's as if they're trying to protect you from yourself a lot of the times, which is really annoying.

As a free user, you won't get connected to the faster servers, which is why sometimes it times out and does nothing. But once the entry has been handed off by the other lj clients, it "should" be posted immediately.

Weird...
