Somehow, depspite numerous posts by some of you about it, previous to last week I was not aware that Prisoner of Askaban had come out in the theaters. I don't even remember seeing any advertising when it was. Anyhow, my dad picked up the DVD and I watched it over the weekend. By myself, as it turned out; John fell asleep. I was amazed at how well Buckbeak was animated; he actually looked like a real, living, breathing creature, with enough mannerisms of both horse and eagle to make him believable. And am I sick, sick person if I say Daniel Radcliffe is going to grow up to be a heartbreaker? Anyhow, I quite enjoyed it, but the ending seemed a little rushed.

And just when did Stephen King come out with three more Dark Tower books? The last one I remember was Wizard and Glass, but I noticed on the new books table at Barnes and Marmoset the other day, Book VII?! I went back up to fiction (this B&N must have rearranged, they used to have a seperate section for horror, but now he and Clive Barker are stuck in with the Fiction & Literature. The Bodice Rippers Romance novels used to be in that section, but now have their own, next to science fiction). And sure enough there were all three of the newer ones, which I had never heard of. I guess I don't keep a close enough eye on authors I like. I can take or leave most of his horror novels, but that series I really liked, along with the stories most people are shocked to find out Stephen King wrote when they're turned into movies, such as The Shawshank Redemption, Stand By Me, and The Green Mile.

I've never read any of the Harry Potter books, but I've seen all three movies (in fact saw the last one twice - quite by accident). I believe I liked the last one the best. And the bird was well done!!

I love the gunslinger series by Stephen King (probably tied with "The Stand"). I haven't read the new additional books - waiting for paperback (or a sale). I'm anxious to read the books - I felt like I had left friends behind when I finished reading the third book.

I think there was some interelatedness between The Stand and The Gunslinger, wasn't there? It's been so long, I can't quite remember.

Just after my oldest son was born, my husband and I used to read chapters of The Gunslinger to each other before we went to sleep. Can't get him to do that anymore, dammit.

Darn, your husband should read to you!! I found an article (don't remember where now listed all the books Stephen King has written that he references throughout the third gunslinger book and The Stand is one of them. What I did was pick up all of those books and read them first before reading the last book.

I forgot to mention this in my last post - but I have a community called [livejournal.com profile] rolandofgilead that I created after I read the third book of the series. I check in every once in a while and it's surprising that so many post to the community. But maybe I shouldn't be - Stephen King is popular. Did you happen to catch the interview on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart with Stephen King last night? Interesting.

Missed that interview, more's the pity. Maybe I'll join that community after I catch up on the books, but Mount TBR is aufully tall right now and it may be awhile. But I'm looking forward to them. ;)

Buckbeak amazed me, too. I saw it twice in theaters and wanted to go a third but abstained.

Personally, I think Rupert Grint's my favorite. :)

You and my friend [livejournal.com profile] thatmikeychick. Oh that red hair. ;) But you have less of a reason to feel guilty about it, m'dear.

I have friends younger than me who have kids their age! Oh well, my mate likes Hermione, so we can be rusty old pervs together. And I truly love Alan Rickman in these things; not enough Snape!. XD
