Pheww. I got up half an hour earlier, filled out all of Angus's forms from his first day packet so he could return them, and still was barely on time getting him to school. Didn't have time to put a lunch together for either of us, so he got lunch money instead of using his new Yugi-oh! lunch box. A couple other parents arrived the same time I did, so I didn't feel so bad. I noticed the kids in his class are now lining up outside the cafeteria, and Mr. C. was about to lead them back to the room, so he just got in line with them.
The starter in the Trooper is in the process of dying, along with the water pump, and it also needs new tires and an alignment. Friday night, I was in the kitchen getting a drink at about midnight, when I heard this loud metallic rattling coming down the street, and was rather surprised when it turned into our front walk. Turned out it was John, who went to get milk at the store after the kids went to bed. The Trooper wouldn't start after he put his purchases in the back, so he gave up, put the stuff back in the cart, and pushed the cart home. Luckily, we only live about a quarter of a mile away from the grocery store. It worried me a little, because he could have been hassled for stealing a cart, since the police station is between our house and the store, but he said a cop was right in the parking lot, watching him trying to start the car, putting his groceries back in, and leaving, and didn't do anything. He called the Auto Club and then I took him back up to the parking lot with my dad's car, where we waited for the tow truck. He tried to start it again when we got there; no dice. After 15 or 20 minutes, the tow truck finally showed up. The driver said "Let me look at it," reached in and turned the key, and of course, it started right up. He said it sounded like the starter; the parts inside can expand as the car warms up and cause it to freeze when attempting to start it again. When it's cold, it starts fine.
So John spent the weekend pricing starters and parts thereof. This morning, just as I was about to take Angus to school, he told maybe I should walk, then said to go ahead and drive it over. I would normally walk if I weren't going directly to work afterward, because in order to find parking place anywhere near the school we have to leave almost the same time as walking. After dropping Angus off, and walking back to the car, I was hoping it either hadn't been driven far enough to really warm up, or had sat long enough to cool off, but alas, it wouldn't start. I walked home, and John will pick it up when he drops Gareth off. I borrowed my dad's car to get to work.
And my neck still hurts, probably more after walking home because I was getting tense. Well, I'm at work now, must get August fishing report out.
