When I read articles like this, I'm grateful that the school district actually brought it up to us that Angus needs special education; from what I've read, it's often an uphill battle to make school district recognize when a child may have a problem. Hopefully, since it was caught early, he'll never be the position of the the sixth grader in the article. How sad that she had to attempt suicide before anyone recognized she was having learning problems, and still the school district didn't see it as warranting any special attention on their part. It was pointed out to us that now that it is in his records, he can't be denied it anywhere he goes, so at least we're past that hurdle. However, it makes me wonder how much in the way of services they're going to be willing to provide in the future, with the trend of constantly shrinking budgets?
School is starting in a couple of weeks, and we're going to have be on top of the homework situation and everything else for sure.
