senoritafish: (Do the Aquaman Butt-Dance!)
We went to see The Fenians last night like we did last year about this time. John didn't want to go because he said he thought they were too loud last time (but I think something else is going on - he's been moody this week, but won't talk about it). They play as a part of Garden Grove's free concert series in a park around the corner from my office, but I had to run home and get the kids into clean clothes and make some PB&J sandwiches, then run back up there and find a place to park several blocks away. AL, SO and JE were already there and we managed to find them fairly quickly, spread out a blanket and a folding chair for me, and settled down to listen. Although you can't really actually settle when you're listening to a Celtic band. The music kind of demands that you dance around a little. Gareth was being shy when we first got there, curling up and hiding his face in the grass, but with a sandwich and a little root beer, he relaxed into his normal Mr. Chatty (as AL likes to call him) persona . The last few songs had them dancing and running around in circles. The show ended with the drummer, in his trademark leopard print kilt crooning Danny Boy, although I noticed he changed the words from "I love you so" to "I love your soul" - a bit odd. Funny, I've been getting emails from this group since we saw them last year, but this seems to be the only time I get to see them (and because it's free).

AL had brought her elderly chihuahua. I had thought throughout the day at the office that I was hearing weird sounds, sort of like if you scuffed your sneaker on a linoleum floor. It turned out she had brought her dog to work in a crate and kept it under her desk. The poor old thing sleeps most of the time anyway, so it wasn't any hardship, but every once in a while it would wake up and give a wheezy sort of a bark or two. It wasn't loud, so you wondered if you'd actually heard it. But there it was on her lap, with its tongue hanging out the side of its toothless mouth, wearing a little t-shirt in case it got cold.

My co-workers find my kids very entertaining for some reason. They walked us back to our car, and the kids, of course, had to explain as much as they could about their favorite cartoon show, Ed, Edd & Eddy, which, not being cartoon fans, AL & SO knew nothing about. They couldn't figure out why Gareth kept calling Angus "Eddy" and what a 2x4 had to do with anything. AL came up to me this morning and told me, "I didn't know what they were saying 75% of the time, but they're sure fun to watch." Heh.
