Jun. 20th, 2005 02:54 pmBack to work this morning. It was rather nice not to be rushing around getting another little person prepped as well. It figured that, while normally I am still trying to pry him out of bed at 7:30, he was up and galumphing up and down the hallway at 7:00 this morning. And this after going to bed later than usual last night (even though I warned that just because they're out of school, they're not going to stay up all night). Partly my fault; I should have got dinner made earlier.
The boys went camping with Grandma and Gigima this weekend - they were gone before I even got home from work Friday. They got to go to Puddingstone Lake, which I remember vaguely is where they do a lot of water skiing and boat races, and feed the waterfowl.
( boys and waterfowl... )
Angus came home with a duck egg, which he said Lacey (Connie's Maltese) had scared the mother away from the nest, and someone else picked up. I really wish their grandmother had seen fit to lecture them about how bird nests shouldn't be disturbed, and especially that eggs should not be removed. I had to do it. I guess Angus thought he would try to hatch it himself (because they had done that in his classroom), but after the thing had been sitting in varying temperatures for I don't know how long, I don't know if there was much hope, not to mention not having an incubator here.
Turns out I didn't need to worry about Beth. She was indeed at work when the earthquake occurred, but nothing in her Yucaipa apartment was damaged (even she was a little surprised), and her dog was sound asleep when she got home. It was downgraded to a 4.9, so it wasn't quite as big as originally thought. Another one occurred off the North Coast though. They come in swarms...
John got two Father's Day cards made the boys in school (early) and I got up and made breakfast for him and Dad since only Avalon was home in the morning. Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and cheese, sausage and biscuits - although they didn't finish baking until everything else was done because although I set the temp, I forgot to turn the knob to "convection" so it didn't pre-heat. I did that the other day with the coffee-maker, did everything but forgot to switch it on, and he told, "You have been doing that more and more lately; maybe you should tell your doctor..." Hmph...if he's only now noticed I'm absent-minded....No present from me unfortunately - I didn't plan ahead enough with the paycheck this month.
Absolutely gorgeous weather this weekend. No haze, no smog, and the bluest sky. We didn't go anywhere, but it was nice enough for Avalon and I playing catch with her big rubber ball in the front yard. It was a little breezy and cool in the shade, but it was pleasant enough just to sit in the sun read Spellsinger (last book group book which I'm m behind on) and watch her petting the neighbor's dogs as they went by on a walk. I kept thinking I smelled freshly cut wood and finally realized the next-door neighbors had just put new redwood bark mulch on their roses. Should have done some gardening myself.
There's nothing quite like late afternoon sunlight, when it's slanting horizontally over the roofs of the houses across the street.
