senoritafish: (perfect TV mom)
Last day of school for the boys today. Actually, as of this minute, they have about another half an hour. I have been feeling a vague sort of excitement about this day arriving for the last couple of weeks. I'm not sure why - it's not like I'm getting out for the summer. Just catching it vicariously from them, I guess. Angus told me this morning he's going to miss it. What?! After all year of "I hate school/homework - it's too hard!" Heh! We'll see when September gets here, hmmm?

The kindergarteners had a little "Good-bye" assembly yesterday morning, so I skipped work until lunchtime to see it, and John and I crammed into the cafetorium with scores of other parents with digital and video cameras. They were all so damn cute, singing off-key and forgetting the words. Gareth looked a little upset at a few points - the last song he didn't start singing at all until the second verse - a "Good-bye, So long" kind of song, which was actually a little wrenching to listen to.

Afterwards, kids and parents adjourned to the kindergarten playground, and there were cookies to be had, which Gareth almost forgot about because he and his buddy Connor were joined at the hip making up stories already. We were talking with Connor's mom and grandma, and it seems we have a couple of peas from the same pod. Another parent who helps on the playground, came up and told us what great kids both Angus and Gareth were, and always a pleasure to be around, in comparison to a few others, who were plain scary.

When we left we said good-bye to Mrs. J, who also repeated similar compliments about Gareth. A little embarrassing, but it's nice to know we must be doing something right. She took me by surprise and gave me a hug, when I think I'd actually put out my hand for a handshake.

So now, they're probably finishing up watching a movie, which I remember doing in that same big cafetorium room. I remember watching The Great Race - I wonder what they'll get to see? Then they'll come home to torture Dad for the summer. Well, he says they're going to be put to work. Ha. We'll see how that goes.
