My time sense is truly off - I still haven't adjusted to the time change. I guess I'm still running on the old time because I thought it was 8 o’clock. Ecch. Remind me to have the boys wash their hands before playing "Blues Clues ABC Time" on it. There was stickiness on the touchpad.

I had gone to the bathroom last night, and heard squeals and giggling, and the words "Bob" and "ketchup". When I came out Gareth was quite proud of himself and pointed to poor long-suffering Bob, who had a big blob of ketchup in his back fur. I took him in the kitchen and cleaned him off with a wet paper towel, while scolding them. "How would you like it if I put ketchup in your hair? Would you like that?" Of course they wouldn't. Poor Bob, sometimes he lets them know they're getting out of hand, and others he just lets them do it. I don't know why he didn't try to get away from them. I think sometimes he just feels stubborn - as in "Dammit, I was here on this chair first, and nothing you do to me is going to make me move!"

One of the things you never imagine yourself saying as a parent. "Don't put ketchup on the cat!"

John just reminded me of another - "Take that pumpkin out of your pants!"

I think today may be a long day. It's Jay's birthday - today he would have been 41 years old. John really misses his brother; although they never did much for each other's birthdays - "Happy Birthday" and maybe a handshake or a hug - it's the first one since he passed away. And Angus is still making comments which sound angry or rude, because e doesn't really understand the concept of death, which makes it even harder for John. This morning before I left for work he started watching something on the news about Robert Downey, Jr. taking about his heroin use and getting clean and how difficult it is. He suddenly said, " This reminds me of Jay," which I thought was why he was watching it in the first place. His mother said she doesn't want any company or anything today - I'm sure it's difficult for her today too. Her way of mourning is to push everyone away - for Jay's funeral she actually phoned all her Michigan relatives and told them not to come - they basically told her "Screw you, we're coming anyway! He was our cousin/nephew/grandson, too!"

Not to speak ill of the dead, but damn Jay anyway! What made him think he could just try the stuff again after 4 years!

Supposed to rain this afternoon. The weather report this morning said there is one huge storm stretching from Seattle to Santa Barbara and it's supposed to reach us by tonight. So [livejournal.com profile] metalmensch and friends, Dave and Mardie (my brother and sister-in-law) in Portland, [livejournal.com profile] vwsrmylife in Sacto, my aunt Margaret in Napa, Doogas in W. Hollywood and [livejournal.com profile] bethbif in Redlands, we are all getting rained on from the same storm! That's quite a rarity for southern California, to share the same weather systems as the Pacific Northwest. Ah well, all water is recycled to all of us eventually, isn't it?
