Dammit Paul, where will we be without all of your horrible puns at lunch (Pete will have no one to compete with), your fascinating anecdotes of our resources agency in days gone by (and I think some of those stories are even before your time), and your music at the fun things. You are our archivist, folklorist, and musician - maybe your voice sounds a bit like the crows cawing outside, but that's more than many of us can do. And thank you for introducing me to the late Stan Rogers, whose amazing baritone sometimes haunts me when I'm out on the wet cold deck of a research vessel. I think I will always remember that one camping trip. At the campfire, you and I kept picking the Stan Rogers songs out of your folksong book, and everyone else was rolling their eyes, and thinking, "God, not another one! Can't we just sing "She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain?"
Please be a bad penny and keep coming back, but have fun with your retirement time, too. The Department is losing a large part of its history, but you deserve the reward. You're going to wind up never coming back from Mexico and I don't blame you a bit. You'll be sorely missed around here
