Ok, it's spring now, and the beginning of sandal season and the exposing of tootsies. Not that I wear them all the time, but I occasionally show my pale toes if not the rest of me, and I'm always happiest in comfy shoes that are easy on, easy off. I like clogs in the winter.

I have a pair of Dr. Martin black sandals that I love. They have velcro straps and they are super comfortable. I once went for a two mile walk in them and came back with nary a blister. When I put them on I try to make sure my feet are clean and that I walk through a minimum dust and dirt if I'm outdoors.

So why is it that after I've only worn them for an hour or two, I get a build up of smelly black stuff under the ball of my foot? It gets large enough to feel a bumpy and uncomfortable, and I just had to go down to wetlab and scrape it off with a knife. Yuck. Are my feet shedding that many skin cells in a morning? Are they attracting dirt particles floating around in the air? Or is the leather breaking down (although it doesn't look like it)? This doesn't happen when I'm wearing flip-flops.

I suppose this would be alleviated by wearing socks, but that's just damn dorky. Especially if they have fuschia and orange stripes like I had on yesterday (because I was wearing boots all morning). Am I the only person this happens to?

This is disgusting, and you shouldn't have read it.
