Going on midnite and it's been pouring buckets since I left work. Dock in the morning - I'd better get out the rain gear. But it means I'll be back in the office early, 'cause the fishermen have gotta be crazy to be out working in this. Some of them are though.

Yay, DP and I are definitely going on the squid cruise starting next Monday. We'll be looking for squid eggs beds around Santa Catalina Island until Thursday. I'm so excited - it's been about two years since I've gotten to go on a research cruise. And I'm glad DP will get to go - she's been with us for nearly four years and has never gotten to do anything like this. She really deserves it.

Actually, no. Very little preys on squid eggs. Their either toxic or the glue that holds the capsules together is just too sticky to eat, I can't remember which. The markets get very irritated when the nets have dragged the bottom and brought up a bunch of egg capsules because they're paying for stuff they can't sell. But I am looking forward to the boat time - it's so rare lately.
