I'm covered in BEES...part the second
Jan. 30th, 2004 09:48 am(I'll send you a Mug Boss if you're the first to tell me the title reference...)
Now I'm slightly creeped out.
I'm not particularly afraid of bees, or any of their hymenopteran sisters. When I was in third grade, I used to catch bees on the flowering shrubs outside of my classroom in my bare hands. Then I would take them over and open my hands up in front of the recess teacher, who would usually yell at me. They never stung me - even then I knew they don't usually sting unless threatened.
But in addition to the previous bee experiences, what do you think I saw a block away from my house, as I was leaving to go to work this morning?
A man walking down the street, wearing white Tyvek coveralls, carrying something in a black plastic garbage bag, and wearing a beekeeper's hat!
edit: John was just inspecting his jacket from yesterday and found three stingers embedded in it. I think he's pretty lucky it was winter and not summer when he could've just been wearing a T-shirt.

Date: 2004-01-30 02:44 pm (UTC)I caught bees with my bare hands with a child, completely unaffected by their stings, until the fateful day when I became allergic, and my foot swelled to the size of a dirigible.
I appear to no longer be allergic, as I was stung on the neck a few years ago with no reaction. Imaginge my relief.
