I'm testing out a recipe using orange juice that John wants to enter in a contest. I turned on the oven to preheat, and I forgot that Dad had me put a bunch of pots and pans in there because he's planning on having the cupboard they are usually in modified; he's getting a new refrigerator which is too tall for the space the one we have now is in. All the pans got heated along with the oven, including one which had belonged to my grandmother. It was never meant to be heated, and when I took it out, it shattered into a million pieces.
Crap. That was the one she alway made her green jello salad in. Not that I'm all that fond of jello deserts but that was one that was typically her. Lime jello, cream cheese - mixed with the jello so it became opaque, and pineapple, served on a lettuce leaf. My mom used to complain that she got tired of having the same thing all the time, but to me it was something that we always had at Grandma's, and I looked forward to it. She alway made it in the same square gold glass covered pan.
And Dad just just emerged from the den and ate half the apple I was going to use as a garnish.
Grrr!
