Mar. 14th, 2012 11:15 amComment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
nugatorytm asks good questions! I don't guarantee I can be as interesting...I always feel like I'm prying when I ask...
1. What is your favorite thing to do to relax?
Probably just this - getting on the internet to see what everyone else is doing. Or putting on some music and reading. Or just walking down to the beach and listening to the ocean for awhile.
2. You just bought the Sunday newspaper. What section do you read first?
Sigh. I'd like to say I read the front page and the world news, so I can be a well-informed citizen. But probably straight to the funnies, and then the arts & entertainment section.
3. Impressionist art, abstract, or other?
Hmm. I like both, but it really depends on the color palette - I usually prefer brighter colors over earth tones or darker things. l saw some original Monets at an exhibition that I actually had trouble breathing in front of, they were so beautiful. My mom loved El Greco, but I can take or leave him. Do fractals count as abstract? I love fractals. However, probably most of my favorites at DeviantArt fall in the fanart category, which can be done in all kinds of different styles.
4. You have won a free trip to anywhere in the world! Where would you go?
Originally I was thinking I'd love to visit Ireland or Scotland. Then I thought, it's free, I should go someplace with limited access. Like Antarctica. Or the International Space Station. ;)
5. Surprise! The people of the place where you went in the last question love you so much, they decide to make you their official ambassador! Where do you take their dignitaries when they come to visit?
Where would I take a bunch of penguins? Would they want to go to Disneyland or visit relatives at Sea World? I know - take them snorkeling in a giant kelp forest...that's my favorite place in the world.
6. Uh-oh, you're called to the United Nations to give a speech. You have only moments to prepare. What would the topic be?
On how speaking in front the World's most important people on very short notice can cause someone to implode. Providing, that is, that I didn't implode first, or can be pulled out of the corner I'm currently crying in. Other than that, something on nations working together for sustainable fisheries maybe? That's the only thing I might know a little (a very little) about.
7. You've worked long and hard your entire life and it's now time to retire. What will you do?
Actually been thinking about this lately; it's really not that far away for me. I love to spend some time volunteering at places like the Aquarium of the Pacific (or even the Cabrillo Aquarium which is smaller and more geared to school groups), or the Pilgrim tall ship down in Dana Point (something my dad always wanted to do, but never got to). Realistically though, I'm probably going to have to keep working at least part time - despite what the media would have you believe about state workers, I can't see my retirement being enough to live on by itself. Maybe I can come back and help my project with scientific aide work. That's the most fun anyway; more time out in the field.
