senoritafish: (pensive)

We spent the weekend with the windows shut because of the smoke and ash. The main fires are about an hour an half drive east of us. I called in sick today - I guess I finally caught the kid's and/or my dad's cold. I had thought my throat was sore from the smoke, but later Sunday I got chills and aches, John has been taking refuge in the garage wearing his respirator, which he dislikes because it makes him sweat like a pig and then he breaks out like a teenager, but better that than the emergency room.

The smoke was not so bad today, but when I was awake I watched the news. I went so far yesterday as to get out a map. I've been to all these places mentiioned in the news, but I could not put them in relation to each other. I heard from Beth - her friends are ok and were allowed back to their home. I feel so bad for [livejournal.com profile] lnorigb and others. I don't really know [livejournal.com profile] xero_sky, but I wish her safety as well. The last I saw on the news of the fire in the mountains, it looked like the wind had changed directions and it was burining back on itself. I hope that trend continues. The news also showed satellite picutres of plumes of smoke going hundreds of miles out to sea.

It's stuffy in here. I suppose we need to invest in a window air-conditioner. We have two of those Sharper Image Ionic Breeze thingies, which would work well if they worked. We don't have gounded power outlets and I think it did something to them - they're under warantee so they would probably fix them, but I just haven't gotten them sent in yet. Dammit - we sure could have used them this weekend. However, our problems are small compared to others....
