So since I could only post a sentence on the phone, I'll continue it here. For those of you not in So. CA, there is a forest fire out by San Bernadino, and the smoke drifting over L.A. and now Orange County. The sun poking through the clouds is a shade of orange, and I'm having to turn the lights on in my bedroom at noon. There are ashes drifting out the sky, although not so much it seems like it's snowing, as it did yesterday in a lot of areas closer to the fire. I hope Beth's ok, she lives in Redlands.

John had to use his rescue inhaler about 5 times last night, and I hope we don't have to make a trip to the emergency room. We went outside to play with a radio controlled car, because John had promised the kids last night before bed that they could, but even I was feeling short of breath when we came inside. He just went over to his friend Manny's to give him a belt; he had admired John's, so John got him one, and also because he would benefit from sitting in the car's air conditioning while driving over to Carson. It turned out that while he was there, the guy's P.O. and about six cops burst in and started questioning everyone, just to make sure Manny's clean, I guess. John got the "Are you sure you're not James Walton?" again. That'd be a neat trick considering he's been dead for a year, but they checked his prints anyway. What fun.

So we're staying indoors today. I guess two more fires started today. Yesterday's was arson, I don't know if today's are or not.

Thinking of you guys.

Sydney's always beset by fires in summer. In January, my parents in Canberra were very close to some biggies -- on the exact same weekend that I took my kid to visit! Typical.

Luck, and strength, lady.

Thanks, I'll gather the good thoughts and redirect them to my friends who actually live much closer to it than I do (See next post), although I will set some aside for John's asthma. :)

Yes, this is fire season here. We get what's called "Santa Ana" winds that blow in from the desert in the fall, and it's when we get hot dry weather combined with high winds. Every year there are bad fires in mountain canyons, and it's also when the firebugs come out of the woodwork, it seems.
