Well, it turns out that it was not an abcess. The vet thinks he may have gotten hit by a car and dragged. He had lacerations everywhere, and the pads of his hind feet were all abraded. Now his leg is all shaved with about a dozen stitches in the back of it, others in other places, and both his hind feet bandaged up, so he looks like he's wearing socks. With those and the cone of silence he has to wear around his neck, plus being confined to our bedroom and not being allowed to go outside for 2 weeks, he's not very happy. With all the tests, xrays, vaccinations and having his teeth cleaned (because he was already out and he needed it done), it came to over $900. Ouch. We had to borrow it from my dad. but Stimpy should make a full recovery, so I guess it's worth all the "you owe me money" noises he'll be making for the next few months until we can pay it back. Damned expensive cat. Damned expensive but tough cat. *Scratches him under the chin* I am seriously considering pet insurance, but for four animals I'm not sure we can afford it.

This morning, despite the cone, he somehow managed to pull one of the dressings off a foot, so we rebandaged it using gauze and a baby sock that no longer fits anyone. Now he has a black sock and a pink and white one. He's being pretty piteous about wanting to go out, but at least he got to eat something this morning.

My next cats will be indoor, honest.

$900?!

Man. In Australian dollars that's about $3,000,000.

You poor bugger.

I'm glad you got him all fixed up, at least.

Yeah, my vet moved to a neighborhood where all rents are much higher, so all her prices went up. It's convienent in that it's only a couple of blocks from where I live, but now just office visits are $20 more than her old place.

Hi Nix, good to hear from you. He's doing ok, I think. Sleeping a lot and the indignity of having antibiotics shoved down his throat twice a day for a couple of weeks and he should be back his noisy obnoxious self again, bugging us to fill up the food dish. If he can see a tiny speck of the bottom of the bowl, he thinks it's empty.

Sounds like your new city is treating you well. I love that area.

Me too. If something like this had happened when I was a kid, I'm sure my parents would have had him put to sleep.

He's got more stitches than I've ever had in my entire life, I think.
