Did my once-a-month dock stint this morning. I always want to capture the pelicans in their breeding colors (totally white/yellow head) but I always seem to get there when their brown summer neck feathers are growing back in. This guy at least still had his (or her, they look the same) yellow head feathers and red beak/gular pouch colors.

The species we monitor on my project have harvest guidelines, which means only so much can be taken during certain time periods. In order to keep a more real-time finger on the pulse, so to speak, we go to the businesses and record their receipts - they do send them in to us, but it takes about two months before they get into the computer system, so this is our means of being more timely. Normally we do this once a week, but the sardine allocation is about to close, so we're doing it every day until it does. I don't use this touch screen computer all that much, so I was a little nervous as to whether I was doing it correctly. Hearts to disguise possible indentifiable info, and too lazy to redownload and blur.

One of the Harbor Department boats off on a clean-up or inspection errand. They noticed me photographing them and started waving.
And today was the last school day before Valentine's, so of course the kids had their little parties...my kids went with the typical boxed cards with their favorite themes (Transformers and Disney Princesses, which we might have gotten at the 99¢ Store) and bad mom that I am, we almost forgot to do them at all...

Not the best focus and sorry for the bedsheets which you've already seen, but Gareth was chomping at the bit to tear into these. A box of Sweethearts® disguised as an iPod, with mini Reeses® as headphones (screen says "Valentine Playlist: LoveBug, All You Need is Love, I Want Candy, She Loves You).
