Actually from back in June, but I hadn't posted about it yet. We'd been looking for awhile, and something finally clicked!

My father and aunt had owned a peice of property out in the desert for for years; it used to belong to my grandfather. It was miles from any town out there, with no infrastructure, and I had always been agitating for them to donate it to the Nature Conservancy or something. However, my aunt and dad, being good Republicans, were dead set against any such thing. The property was 80% wash (dry river bed) and most of it couldn't be developed in any case because of flooding. They were finally contacted by a realtor who buys what called mitigation property; a mine in the area buys undeveloped property in case they want to expand their operations. Eventually, my dad's property will be ceded to a desert conservancy in the area. I don't know if the deal is on the up and up, but I suppose if it's eventually going in the care of a conservancy I don't have too much of a problem with it.
In the end, Dad generously gave us a part of the proceeds; since the Trooper hasn't been running we decided to put a portion of it towards a new car. We finally decided on a Kia Sedona; it probably doesn't get the best gas mileage, but it has top ratings for saftey and we needed something to carry five passengers since I don't know how much longer my dad's going to be driving. Now we don't have to take two vehicles if we all visit my brother or the aquarium. With the down payment we were able to make, the payments are actually less than we were paying for the Trooper, which was used!
Checking out the back seat.

Doesn't mean I'm not taking the bus anymore though - can't afford gas anymore than we could before.
