Beach sunset...

My middle son got to go to Universal Studios with his grandmother as a belated birthday present, and the other two progeny wanted to go somewhere too. So we went to the beach at sunset, about a mile away from my house. This is just after the sun disappeared behind Santa Catalina Island.
The bright spot is the setting sun on the buildings of downtown Long Beach (clicking will take you to Flickr, where you can see the full size picture if you want...)

Looking north towards downtown Long Beach, L.A. Harbor, and Palos Verdes penninsula...

and south to the pier...

I've never seen so many clam shells washed up on the beach; most of them are bean clams about as big as your fingernail...

We hadn't been there very long so we thought we'd go down to the pier, too. Bah, the stupid machine to pay for parking ripped me off for $1.50 just before I took this...

We decided to walk out on the pier to Ruby's and get a snack. It was in the low 40's already, and I don't think I'd ever seen so few people on the pier. Usually there are lots of people fishing because you don't have to have a fishing license, but I guess most thought it was too chilly.

Ruby's is a chain of 50's-style diners in OC, often occupying the ends of piers, but in other places too. This one has two floors and a nice view.

We split an order of "Frings" and a cuppa to warm up a bit before we headed home...
