Well, he's seen caterpillars and pupas around the house, and I told him how they rest for awhile and become butterflies and moths. So I guess it would follow that other animals would do the same thing.
He completely floors me every once in while. I'm sure he'll be much smarter than I am. Of course, I'm required to think that about all three of them. ;)
