senoritafish: (so tired...)

(Honestly, I kept trying to post this until after midnite (PST) last night - what were all you people doing?! I'm an old married person with kids - I'm supposed to be home on a Saturday night. Aren't all of you young, single/otherwise unattached peoples supposed to be out clubbing or carousing or having a good time with your friends or something?)

Well, I was so proud of my three kangaroo paws blooming a few posts ago. Gareth and I went for a walk while his sister was napping, and a few blocks away, we passed a humungous house that's been remodeled to look like an adobe (a little out of place here; it looks like it should be in New Mexico). The front yard, although small, was full of xerophytic plants, and fully half of it was red and yellow kangaroo paws, plus a number of other interesting things.

I have three, and still a large abount of bare dirt in that planter. But a hummingbird has been visiting them, and I put some ot the sunflower and California poppy seedlings out there yesterday afternoon. The blanketflower/purpl coneflower (I can't tell them apart now)are still too small to put out there without being eaten, I think. Filled up the birdfeeders again and hung them out again. But basically had a pretty lazy day. John filled up the kiddie pool and spread a sheet out on the grass and Gareth alternately jumped on me and joined me lying on my back and looking up through the trees leaves. Warm, but with enough of a breeze to be pleasant. It felt nice. Earlier this week, it had been sticky and muggy - I guess there's been a tropical storm far to the south that we're getting some of the effects of.

I dislike the heat, but I enjoy warm summer evenings like this, when the sunlight has that golden quality to it as it slants across the yard. I feel like I've actually been getting to know some of the neighbors (John already knows most of them - he's far more gregarious than I am), as they stop and chat while they're out for a walk. Unforunately, it makes dinner kind of late because we don't come inside until after sunset. Time to scrounge through the freezer.

Angus is campng with grandma again this weekend. We sent him off with new swim trunks, black with Moorish idols all over them,, and apparently, he's been in the pool twice and actually waded in up to his neck, according his grandmother's phone call.. Good, he's been afraid before, and I was a little aprehensive that he was going to freak out when we sent him to swimming lessons.
