senoritafishGareth told me last week, "My teacher said we have the whole week off next week!" I shook my head and replied "No, no, you have a short week because of Thanksgiving, but you still have to go to school Monday, Tuesday and Thursday." Damned if I didn't look at the school schedule and find that, this year, they do have the whole week off. I wonder why they changed it? Unless so many people take the whole week off anyway, the school district decided not to fight it anymore. I'm assuming the days will be made up at the end of the year.
I had already asked for the week off, but I'm at work today to see if I can expedite some work to be on the fume hood in the lab - we recently had it serviced and they told us the mushroom fan on the roof is not within OSHA standards. It'll cost $3900 to install a 10' stack on it because as it is now, we could possibly be cited, if an inspector took the time to go up there. Not that it's getting heavy duty use, mind you. We stow squid gonad in jars of formalin and that's about it.
Jeez, even in college we only got Thanksgiving Day and the day after - usually I didn't even bother going home because the drive would have taken a day each way (California is a big state). I usually was invited by a local friend to spend it with them.
